Flexible Hose

Bowbros Flexible Connections for Gas Cookers are made in two constructions.

Our traditional flexible hose is the Spiral Wound type which is manufactured to BS669:Part 1:1989, which is the current British Standard for Gas Cooker Hoses and their associated Sockets. This consists of a flexible steel internal tube with a rubber outer cover. All the Spiral Wound Flexible Hose we manufacture have been tested and approved to BS669 by British Gas.

The latest innovation is a plastic insert in the bayonet fitting on the hose. This is designed to soften and melt in the case of a kitchen fire, allowing the valve in the socket to close, and stopping the supply of gas to the cooker. At the moment this is only available on the 1/2" bayonet fitting, but we are in the process of developing similar functionality on our full range of flexible hoses.

We also produce a Stainless Steel Flexible Hose. This consists of a stainless steel convoluted tube to which is soldered end connections, and the complete assembly is protected by a Spiral Wound Stainless Steel outer cover. This has been designed to meet the requirements of UNE60715-2.

As with all gas carrying assemblies, the flexible hose is a critical component of any gas installation. Therefore we test every Flexible Hose for soundness prior to despatch.

We also audit every batch of Flexible Hose, testing the sample for soundness and flow rate, as well as a number of other attributes. We have facilities for testing all the mechanical requirements of BS669, and are therefore able to ensure our product compliance at all times.

We manufacture eight different flexible hose in all, as described below. Standard lengths are 900mm (3ft) ; 1100mm; and 1250mm (4ft). All varieties of flexible hose can be supplied for use with LPG gas. This must be specified at the time of ordering, as the standard flexible hose is not suitable:

Slimline Straight Bayonet Flexible Hose

Slimline Straight Bayonet Cooker Flex The Slimline product range was designed by Bowbros to offer a smaller and more easily handled alternative to the 1/2" Bayonet Hose and Socket. The design brief was to produce a product based on a 3/8" nominal bore hose, while offering a similar level of safety and integrity as the 1/2" design. The result is a safe and reliable method of connecting a cooker to the gas supply, while offering increased flexibility to allow easier installation. This Flexible Hose is designed to be used with the Slimline Angle Cooker Socket. It may also be used with the Slimline Straight Cooker Socket provided care is taken in the installation to ensure the flexible hose is not bent through an over tight bend radius.

Slimline Angle Bayonet Flexible Hose

Slimline Angle Bayonet Flexible Hose This is the right angle version of the above flex. It is designed to be used with the Slimline Straight Cooker Socket.

1/2" Straight Bayonet Flexible Hose

½" Straight Bayonet This is the 1/2" nominal bore flexible hose designed by British Gas, and used extensively in their installations since 1968. It should used with the 1/2" Lightweight Cooker Socket.

1/2" Angle Bayonet Flexible Hose

½" Angle Bayonet Flexible Hose This is the right angle version of the above flexible hose. It should be used with the 1/2" Straight Socket.

1/2" Union Flexible Hose

½" Union Type Flexible Hose This is the standard flexible hose used by British Gas prior to the launch of the Bayonet type connection. It incorporates a union connection to allow the connection to be made without applying torsion to the flexible hose. It is recommended that this is replaced by a Flexible Hose and Socket incorporating a bayonet connection, as it is inherently safer.

3/8" Union Flexible Hose

3/8" Union Type Flexible Hose This is a 3/8" nominal bore alternative to the above flexible hose. It is particularly useful for connecting small work-top appliances.

BFS Type Flexible Hose

BFS type Flexible Hose This product is manufactured by Bowbros under licence from BFS Ltd. It is a 3/8" nominal bore flexible hose incorporating a right angle bayonet connection. It was used extensively by some British Gas regions prior to reorganisation as an alternative to the 1/2" Bayonet connection. It should be used with the BFS Socket.

Stainless Steel Slimline Straight Bayonet Flexible Hose

Stainles Steel Straight Bayonet Flexible Hose This Flexible Hose has a 10mm nominal bore, and has the same end fitting configuration as the standard Slimline Straight Bayonet Flexible Hose. It is designed to be used with the Slimline Angle Cooker Socket. It may also be used with the Slimline Straight Cooker Socket provided care is taken in the installation to ensure the flexible hose is not bent through an over tight bend radius.
